Hello all!
This blog prompt has made me realize how little I do anything besides go to work/seminar and then back home. That being said, I do have a pretty good time at seminars when we’re all chilling out and chatting (or spilling UROP tea on camera). Although I haven’t gotten to know many fellows very closely, I do hope we can stay in touch and get together in the future (5-10 year WAGSFP 2018 reunion, anyone?).
Despite my dearth of experiences with my fellow fellows, I do have a lot with my mentor (perhaps this is the cause of said lack of experiences with other fellows). I have been working with her since October 2017 through Fall/Winter UROP, and as a result we are pretty close (as far as mentor/mentee relationships go), and she is really easy to approach with any issues or questions I have, whether in person, via email, or with a text. She also has an adorable baby (who was *this* close to being born on my birthday; she’s only one day after!), who I have yet to meet in person, and I can’t wait to do so.
As far as what’s been most helpful to me, I can’t really say anything was particularly helpful from the seminars? Seminars are mostly just like interesting presentations, at least for me. I’m sure the upcoming poster workshop, etc. will be helpful in a more concrete way, however.
I am looking forward to symposium because I can’t wait to see everyone else’s work (and because going to work every day while a good number of my friends go on vacation and do nothing is pretty tiring), even though it means the end of hanging out (albeit infrequently) with such cool people. 🙂
