Dear Past Self

Dear Past Self,

In your first blog post, you reflected on the situations that had brought you to WAGSFP. I’ll let you know what you’ll have come to learn by the very first days of August 2018, due to the efforts that you will make in the time that you spend here.

I’ve had some great conversations with the other members of this fellowship; they’ve offered me chances to learn about other experiences with Michigan, and with pursuing and reexamining professional and personal ambitions. I’ve grown academically by figuring out how to express ideas more compactly and neatly, for audiences that deserve to deal with complicated thoughts that have been clearly written out. And part of this audience is a version of myself that I should continually strive to be – in order to impress others, I first have to impress myself. I’ve also received so many, many encouraging words from peers and mentor-figures alike, which have reinforced my sense of how to live out my future as a person in an educational role: both towards myself and others, and towards future students of mine.

I have come to feel like fuller person.

To you,

Trina
