CATCH-UP
Since my last blog post, I’ve finished looking through all of the elective labor induction patients who delivered at the CNM Service. After compiling records from specific prenatal appointments that indicated they were going to receive an elective induction, I looked at trends in various quantitative metrics associated with each patient. For example, some of these include seeing if patients were first-time mothers vs. if they’ve given birth before, how far along in their pregnancy they were (gestational age), and various demographics (age, race/ethnicity, insurance coverage). I also tried to look into a more qualitative analysis regarding the actual content of the notes that caregivers were taking during prenatal appointments, and I’m excited to share my findings with you all at the symposium!
REFLECTION
Overall, I’ve been feeling extra grateful lately for the privileges that I’ve been given. Even beyond my acceptance to WAGSFP, I’m incredibly thankful for my health, friends, and family who have impacted my life to shape me into the person I am today. I wouldn’t be anywhere if it weren’t for the people who mean so much to me and who have helped guide me through all of the things that I’ve been through until this point. Especially during a year where we’re living in such unprecedented times and it feels as though it’s a series of unfortunate events one after the other, I’ve been trying to focus on positives in my life while simultaneously trying to alleviate the negatives. It’s especially difficult when we hear and see so many sad things going on in the world, but every now and then I try to think of some of the good things that have happened in my life in 2020.
NEXT STEPS
It’s a very bittersweet feeling that tomorrow is our last seminar together – I’m sad that we will no longer be able to experience so many interesting and eye-opening things, but at the same time I’m really excited to see the culmination of everyone’s hard research work next week. I’m in the process of figuring out how exactly I want to present all of my information with regard to my project, and I’m sure many of you are in a similar position as well. I’m just really trying to make this last week count and work hard during this final stretch before final presentations.
CLOSING REMARKS
It’s truly been great getting to be in a cohort with you all, and I’m so grateful for all of the new things we learned and experienced together. I really appreciate all of you and all that we have shared during seminar, and special thanks to Chris for making every lesson from each seminar session so unique and valuable. I can definitely say that this is a learning curve with some of the most important professional and personal development I’ve ever received. Thanks again, and I hope we can all (hopefully) meet in person sometime in the fall!

I feel bittersweet too! I wish we could have done the fellowship in person, but it was a pleasure reading your reflections and spending the summer with you!
