This summer I got to fully immerse myself in the research experience. I went through the process of researching what complications we had in previous experiments and how we can change the protocol for a more successful outcome while adding new elements to it as well. Being there for a full day everyday allowed me to develop new skills as well as improve my old ones. Getting to help plan the experiment and also execute it was awesome as I got to see the research process come to life! We spent some really long days in the lab which were exhausting but also very rewarding as we collected and processed invitro and invivo data. This summer I also got to immerse myself in literature and improve my writing and reading skills when looking for specific information and writing different abstracts. I had not had a lot of experience with reading other protocols and formulating my own, but being able to spend my whole days there I was able to learn how to do that. I also got new experiences with data processing software like flowjo that I had not experienced before. Overall, my summer research experience was very good. I did not get the opportunity to present as I had a time conflict but still formulated my research into a cohesive abstract that I got to experience writing for the first time. I also got to present my research in small groups of undergraduate students, graduate students, and post docs in a journal club at the Shea lab.
