[su_quote cite=”Natasha Bedingfield”]Release your inhibitions. [/su_quote] When I first came to this university, I thought I was going to major in Environmental Studies. I wasn’t super passionate about it, but I liked it enough and I figured it was my only option. That all changed when I took my first coding and stats classes, something…

Here are some suggestions on how to write an effective blog:
– This is not an essay or scientific paper! Use first person, contractions- your own personal voice. While you want to use proper spelling and grammar, don’t feel like you need to confine yourself to the standard essay format you’re used to in other classes.
– Use links. If you reference an interesting magazine article, link it in your blog. If you want to show a relevant youtube clip, go ahead and include it in your post. http://writetodone.com/new-style-blog-writing/
– Use pictures when relevant. They make your post more visually appealing and interesting to read.
– If you prefer to create a podcast or video, feel free to do so. If you have any really creative ideas you want to try, let me know and we can discuss it.
– Please be respectful in your posts and comments. Do not use any offensive or derogatory language.
– While there is no word count for written blog posts, please make sure your posts are insightful and contain all the necessary information. For those of you who aren’t sure where to start, 250-500 words is a good range to follow.
– The target audience is you prior to taking this course

Working My Ways Towards Growth, Grit, and Stick
What have I learned about myself recently? Well, surprisingly enough, I’ve learned that I actually truly enjoy physical activities like exercise and yoga. This was quite the revelation to me because I’ve typically been self-conscious about exercising and always felt silly whenever I tried. Now, however, I’ve come to appreciate how I am able to…
Program Reflection: Spilling the Tea on WAGSFP
Welcome to an honest, no-holds-barred review of my time in the WAGSFP fellowship. And honestly, it’s been amazing (sorry to anyone hoping to read a scathing review). While there are definitely some areas where the program could be improved, as with any program, I’ve been surprised by how much I’ve genuinely enjoyed being a part…
Free Blog: A Month Without My Laptop
??????????????????????????????? I miss my laptop very much. I use it for everything. From my laptop I can learn about every field with a few short key strokes. My laptop also holds everything of importance, from academic work to family photos to video games. I believe a large source of attachment is how I purchased it…
Programming Reflection (AKA I love WAGSFP and everyone in it)
This summer, I’ve had a lot of fun actually going to the various WAGSFP programming! I was a little nervous going in for orientation, just wondering if I’d meet a decent group of people. Everyone I’ve met is more than just decent though, wonderful/smart/inspirational are better-fitting descriptors. As for orientation programming itself, it was pretty…
Programming Reflection
I feel that I have benefitted from the programming associated with WAGSFP. I think that the seminars have been a helpful complement to the research experiences we’re having. For future WAGSFP cohorts, I think some of the sessions could be somewhat more advanced and less general. The Brown Bag session I attended was interesting because…
Songs for this Summer
One thing I do a lot is listen to music. I, like many others, find certain songs, fixate on them, and then move on to other music discoveries when I’ve exhausted that set of songs. Consequently, specific songs will very quickly take me back to one particular moment in my life. Playing one album will…
Reflection on WAGSFP
I’d like to start this blog by saying how grateful I am to have had this opportunity this summer. I’ve decided to organize my thoughts for this blog with a highlights section and room for improvement section. I’ll begin with the much briefer room for improvement section: Room for improvement: 1) Certain seminars: I…
A Reflection
Hi again y’all! With this blog prompt, I think it helps to be grateful yet honest when describing how the experiences provided so far are in the WAGSFP. It’s this combination that ultimately allows the most growth to occur within any person, group, or task – and that’s really what I’d want out of an…
WAGSFP Reflection
Now that I have the chance to reflect about my experience with WAGSFP I have come to a conclusion that being homesick is real. I would say research in general is isolating and lonely work. Then adding on being away from home doubles your isolation and loneliness. Honestly, my cohort, the seminars, Elizabeth Kupser, my…
