Dear future self, Through a fortuitous combination of guidance, others’ faith, and a renewed sense of purpose (however dramatic it all may sound), your past self is here and working. She has never formally conducted research in the humanities, nor has she worked with a small group pf people that is predicated on sustained…

Here are some suggestions on how to write an effective blog:
– This is not an essay or scientific paper! Use first person, contractions- your own personal voice. While you want to use proper spelling and grammar, don’t feel like you need to confine yourself to the standard essay format you’re used to in other classes.
– Use links. If you reference an interesting magazine article, link it in your blog. If you want to show a relevant youtube clip, go ahead and include it in your post. http://writetodone.com/new-style-blog-writing/
– Use pictures when relevant. They make your post more visually appealing and interesting to read.
– If you prefer to create a podcast or video, feel free to do so. If you have any really creative ideas you want to try, let me know and we can discuss it.
– Please be respectful in your posts and comments. Do not use any offensive or derogatory language.
– While there is no word count for written blog posts, please make sure your posts are insightful and contain all the necessary information. For those of you who aren’t sure where to start, 250-500 words is a good range to follow.
– The target audience is you prior to taking this course

Dear Future Kalei (KG-129),
This is you right now stressing about the future and what is to come. This summer is filled with a lot of activities that impact your immediate future; a clinical psychology lab that will hopefully help you decide if the field is right for you, GRE prep for the fall, exploring graduate school options and trying to figure out what programs you are going to apply for and what applications you can actually afford to submit, and beginning to write your thesis and develop a study to send out in the fall. Wow that is a lot.
It’s fine. You’ll be fine. You are going to be so happy with your success when its all over, you just gotta keep pushing. So what are some good tips to remember as you face these stressful times coming up. Old Kalei did a little under(graduate)ground research and here are some tips to maintaining your sanity while you complete all these intense tasks.
Dealing with Stress
Avoid Caffeine (not happening), Alcohol (not happening), and Nicotine (can do!)
Indulge in physical activity (its hot but I guess we can go outside)
Get more sleep (WITH WHAT TIME!, jk I will try)
Try Relaxation Techniques (Yoga is not for me but we can look into other options)
Talk to someone (reasonable)
Keep a stress diary (sounds stress inducing)
Take control (ugh fine)
Manage your time (but there are so many tv shows on my watchlist…)
Learn to say no (NO!)
Rest if you are ill (I have no time for sickness, but if you get ill Kalei I guess try to chill)
Well now that you have seen the things that you (potentially) can do to help yourself feel better, doesn’t it seem easy? NO (I am good at #9). But in all seriousness you know you can do this and you have so much support to help you along the way. Be diligent about getting things done but do not let this summer be without fun. You are a warm, fun-loving person who is going to do great things in this world and you are putting in the grind now to help even more in the future Kalei (KG-195). YOU GOT THIS.
Love ya girl,
Kalei
To You in The Future
Hey Caiser, Hopefully your luck hasn’t run out by the time you read this. Right now both of us have made it through everything unscathed. We’ve had so many opportunities on our journey and they have propelled our success. I just started WAGSFP but you have already reaped it benefits (if you didn’t slack). I…
A Letter to the Future Me
Dear Me, Myself, and I, So after spending the month of May in India being a Pre-Health Intern at Columbia Asia Hospital in Bangalore, you’re back. And ready to kick butt and chew bubblegum with your project in the WAGSFP. But what do you hope to gain out of it? Well, as a rising senior…
A Letter to My Future Self
Dear Future Brianna, As I write this letter, I’m reflecting on all that I’ve achieved up to this point, and I’m beginning to make plans for how I’ll accomplish my future goals. Although I’m nervous about the future’s uncertainties, I am excited about all of the personal, academic, and professional growth that this summer research…
A Letter to my Future Self
Dear Rhianna, I know you’re not really one to write letters or journal entries for yourself to read later. But honestly maybe you should, because of the many things you learned this year, one is that your life can change in a span of even a week. Now I don’t think that’ll happen over the…
Letter to Future Me!
Dear Sonia, First reminder, where you are right now was never given to you for free, you had to work hard to get to where you are. Yet two days before you would get on your flight to arrive to University of Michigan, you wanted to decline the offer because you continued to believe that…
Letter to Myself
Hi Riley, This letter marks the beginning of my time in the WAGSFP and I am really excited to see where this goes. This’ll be my first time spending the summer in Ann Arbor (which I’ve already learned is way too hot to not have a bike) instead of back in Arizona with 3 dogs…
A Letter to My Future Self
Dear Future Sam, Wow, you’re looking great. I’m glad you took care of yourself all those years. Anyway, the purpose of this letter is not flattery; rather, I wanted to create a snapshot of myself at this point in my life, about to start the WASFP program at U of M, for you to look…
