A Letter To Your Future Self-Rowan Klar

Dear Future Rowan, 

I’m proud of you. I’m proud of you for stepping out of your comfort zone and trying something kind of scary. I’m proud of you for creating a research project that you are truly passionate about and dedicating your time and energy to creating something super cool. I hope you’re proud of yourself too. I’m assuming that you probably faced some challenges. You probably felt overwhelmed at times and wondered if this was the right thing to do. I hope you decided that it was. 

My expectations for this summer are high. I hope to challenge myself and learn new skills for how to conduct research. I’m eager to work alongside my mentor (who is amazing, as I’m sure you know), learning from her expertise and gaining guidance that I can bring along with me into my future. I hope that this experience only made you more excited to continue exploring the fields of weight stigma, body image research, and more. We’ve had our own experiences with these topics and I hope that this research motivated you to keep pursuing it so that we can further help others who are struggling.

With that being said, I’m extremely excited for you. You’re one step closer to achieving your dreams of becoming a registered dietitian and getting your doctorate. Only two semesters left until you graduate Michigan and move on… I hope this summer was an amazing experience for you. 

As I embark on this adventure, I am filled with a sense of optimism and curiosity. I’m eager to challenge myself, push the boundaries of my understanding, and hopefully be able to contribute meaningful research to the field of weight stigma research. I can’t wait to see how this experience shapes me, both personally and professionally.
