Hi Future Beatrice!
Congrats on finishing the fellowship! Right now, my project has just started, and it marks the beginning of a great relationship between me and my team. I know we’ve done research before this, but this project touches a realm of science we’ve not yet had any experience in, right? Even so, given our interest in research, I think the Fellowship is a wonderful way to learn about other fields and to connect with others who are in the research community.
Given our interest in Neuroscience, a project revolving around Data Science and text data analysis feels out of our league. I suppose this poses a few challenges, such as the slow-pace learning associated with encountering a new subject. I also anticipate a greater reliance on other members of my team given my inexperience, but I think this would be an amazing way to bond with my team. Additionally, given the computational nature of the project, what I learn through my challenges will be highly applicable to other areas.
Besides my worries, I have a lot of hopes for this research experience, which you are probably well acquainted with. I hope to be more proficient with programming languages, such as R and Python, which are crucial for data analysis. I hope to work closely with my mentors such that their guidance will be relevant to me even when I no longer work with them. Finally, it is my biggest hope that what I learn from this program will be highly applicable to my future projects and career development.
As for now, what I do know are the skills which we can bring into the project from previous research experiences. This includes producing literature reviews and research posters, which I’ve done before! My previous experience with R should also be relevant since this project heavily relies on it. Most importantly, my experience with working in a research team has allowed me to be communicative with others. I’m very excited to apply the things I’ve learned in the past into this project.
I can’t wait to bond with my team and to be a part of the UROP Fellowship community! I know the challenges are many, but I know this rare learning opportunity will bring me forward in the research and academic world.
