Hey so I know this blog post is kind of late, but in my defense I don’t see as many people who remembered to blog about this on time, so I don’t feel quite as guilty for forgetting to post this up earlier. At least, that’s the excuse I’ll use if Elizabeth asks. 😛 ANYWAYS,…

Take a chance, make a change
While I try to make most of my blog posts positive and light-hearted, my research topic is focused on the hardships faced by gay men thus this post is taking a more serious form. [su_divider top=”no” style=”dashed” divider_color=”#fe0ddf” size=”6″ margin=”5″] My project focuses on the sexual misconduct experiences of gay men on college campus. This summer…
History of Breastfeeding in Brazil– Research Impact
I am working with Professor Victoria Langland, who holds a joint appointment in the History and Romance Languages and Literatures departments, on her project about the history of breastfeeding in Brazil. This project is a historical study of the development of scientific and social understandings of breastfeeding, human milk banking, and motherhood throughout the 20th…

WAGSFP Profile
Hi everyone! My name is Rhianna! I’m going to be a junior here at Michigan and I’m majoring in psychology and minoring in Spanish (and hopefully history!). When I’m not here at school, I call Washington, DC home. While I’m glad to be missing DC heat this summer, I loved growing up there. At home,…

Dear Future Kalei (KG-129),
This is you right now stressing about the future and what is to come. This summer is filled with a lot of activities that impact your immediate future; a clinical psychology lab that will hopefully help you decide if the field is right for you, GRE prep for the fall, exploring graduate school options and trying to figure out what programs you are going to apply for and what applications you can actually afford to submit, and beginning to write your thesis and develop a study to send out in the fall. Wow that is a lot.
It’s fine. You’ll be fine. You are going to be so happy with your success when its all over, you just gotta keep pushing. So what are some good tips to remember as you face these stressful times coming up. Old Kalei did a little under(graduate)ground research and here are some tips to maintaining your sanity while you complete all these intense tasks.
Dealing with Stress
Avoid Caffeine (not happening), Alcohol (not happening), and Nicotine (can do!)
Indulge in physical activity (its hot but I guess we can go outside)
Get more sleep (WITH WHAT TIME!, jk I will try)
Try Relaxation Techniques (Yoga is not for me but we can look into other options)
Talk to someone (reasonable)
Keep a stress diary (sounds stress inducing)
Take control (ugh fine)
Manage your time (but there are so many tv shows on my watchlist…)
Learn to say no (NO!)
Rest if you are ill (I have no time for sickness, but if you get ill Kalei I guess try to chill)
Well now that you have seen the things that you (potentially) can do to help yourself feel better, doesn’t it seem easy? NO (I am good at #9). But in all seriousness you know you can do this and you have so much support to help you along the way. Be diligent about getting things done but do not let this summer be without fun. You are a warm, fun-loving person who is going to do great things in this world and you are putting in the grind now to help even more in the future Kalei (KG-195). YOU GOT THIS.
Love ya girl,
Kalei
