Compared to past weeks, this week at HOPE Village Revitalization has been pretty chill since some people are still out of town from the holiday weekend. Nevertheless, I’ve still been trying to stick to a consistent work schedule and accomplish my projects virtually. How have you guys been holding yourself accountable for your projects? It can be easy to lose steam this far into our fellowships!
Since we can’t be at our placements in person, I have been organizing volunteering through students at UMich and Wayne State. I have been able to get a few volunteers, and it has been nice to hear about their experiences at the Farmers Market and community gardens. I even have been partnering with a UMich volunteer to create a voting/census guide for the residents. This way, we can share resources on how people can register to vote, get an absentee ballot, locate their local polling place and city clerk, and fill out their census.
Other than data entry on customer and vendor surveys, I have been meeting with a social media manager to elevate HVR’s farmers market advertising and overall Facebook/Instagram presence. We’re going to be creating weekly recipes featuring vendor produce, pushing informational graphics on Double Up Food Bucks, and increasing followers.
While some tasks can be dry, I know that the work we are doing at our placements greatly helps our Detroit communities!
