The second has been so busy, yet it has been great! The non- profit that I am working with this summer is the 48203/ HP Collaborative. THe purpose of this organization is to network with other nonprofit organizations that serve the Highland Park community. This summer we will be reaching out to two different groups of the Highland Park community, which are youth and the elderly.
The first part of the project is to find different youth organizations in HP that serve as an asset to the youth. When finding those organizations we will be interviewing them to see what are the problems they face in their organizations. Also, we would be finding the needs of the organization as well.
When working with the elderly, we will be giving a survey to them created by AARP. The survey will be to determining the needs of the elderly community.
So far we have been making a great deal of progress. We have been to two successful meetings so far. One meeting included a focus group that was very powerful. We (Marlee and I) received so much background about the Highland Park community. The people of HP are so passionate about their community it was such a beautiful sight to see. The atmosphere in the room was just so positive and everyone was just filled with joy as they talked about Highland Park.
The second meeting we met with the elderly community leaders. This meeting basically was about the survey and the upcoming health fair. We also, got to take a tour of the rec. center. The elderly were so nice and accepting to us in their community.
Last but not least, We got to take a tour of Highland Park! This was the highlight of our week. Highland Park is such an underrated community. Here are a couple of pictures from our tour.
