Week 7: Full of Pride! – Detroit Community-Engaged Research Program

Week 7: Full of Pride!

Detroit Pride and Allied Media Conference are two events that I participated in that I will always remember! I am no stranger to Pride; this is my second or third time attending the event and it was as fun as ever. My favorite aspects of the event are the freebies, performances, and, of course, the all-day rave, but there are also quite a few vendors and other attractions at Pride. My most memorable moments this year were dancing my butt off at the rave, seeing one of my favorite drag queens perform a Beyonce set, and finding a new music group to follow. (You guys should listen to White Powder Perm or Ransom by the Rich White Ladies, good stuff right there.) After a prideful day of hanging out with my friends, I ventured back the apartment and slept, as per usual.

The second event, Allied Media Conference, was paid by my organization and was a way for me to network and find resources that would be useful for our organization. AMC is described on its website as “a collaborative laboratory of media-based organizing strategies for transforming our world” a featured a myriad of panels and workshops from PSA Making to How to Channel Your Inner Beyonce. Needless to say, I learned a bunch of information from both the positive and negative aspects of the conference, and I’m looking forward to attending it again. The after party was also on point.

As week 7 comes to a close, I realized that because I worked hard, I need to play hard (or dance hard). And if I’m too tired to dance, I can always sleep hard.
