Week 2: Full Blast – Detroit Community-Engaged Research Program

Week 2: Full Blast

Last week felt pretty high intensity — I was meeting new people, adjusting to a new work environment (and living environment), and trying to figure out what exactly I would be spending my summer doing. But though last week was a little crazy, the intensity has not faded. And I love it.

At EcoWorks, and with my friends in the program — it’s full speed ahead. I’ve got a pretty good grasp of the material I’m working on, and I am feeling way more comfortable in the city. Now, it’s time to spread my wings.

At work, this means that it’s time to go into the field — meeting with people and trying to get the programs I’ve been learning about for the last week or so off the computer screen and into the real world. I haven’t really dived into the bulk of my research project yet, but it’s coming soon, I can feel it.

And after work, I’m getting a grasp on the city. I had a great experience with Sydney when we went to the Honeybee grocery store. Like Kelsey said in our meeting today, I’m starting to feel less like a visitor and more of a participant. Instead of trying to experience an event or a specific place, like all of my life previously, I’m experiencing the city. This means that I am experiencing the streets, the people, the atmosphere.

I’m feeling good, racing forward, and I’m trying to not let this experience fly by too fast. Till next week!
