Since being here at EcoWorks I have noticed a great deal of community involvement. There are multiple branches of leadership here and everyone plays a unique role in helping the city of Detroit. At Green Consulting, my department, we are working on two very important projects: the first being Eco-D, the first two eco-districts in Detroit. Eco-D is an initiative that takes existing neighborhoods and helps them move forward in green infrastructure. My project this summer is the Michigan Energy Efficiency for All (MEEFA); which is looking at affordable multifamily housing units and monitoring their energy consumptions to help alleviate the cost.
Some of the other branches here, for instance, Residential Education help to teach people ways to reduce spending on their energy bills. The Water Resident Assist Program (WRAP) comes out to homes and do basic repairs to water-related issues. All these programs help people with not only their homes but also their way of life.
Being back at home I have also seen development in the city. I have always loved Detroit, and now I am pleased to see other people are appreciating the beauty of the city as well.I feel like the city is a great place for aspiring entrepreneurs, artist, and just for those people who want to make a difference. There is so much to tap into, and with being away at school for a little while I can see that the city was very busy in making Detroit an awesome place to be.
