Reaction to My first Blog – Detroit Community-Engaged Research Program

Reaction to My first Blog

I cannot believe that my time in Detroit has come to an end. Looking back on my first week in the city, I have came a long way from not knowing how to find the residential towers at WSU, to jumping on the highway in a split second to travel to Dearborn to shop, or eating at a cool small restaurant on the east side of Detroit, at any given moment. Living in the City for a couple of months has definitely made me more appreciative and aware of how important the little things are. Surrounding your self around people who are also passionate about similar things, has been a small, but yet very important aspect of my experiences in this program. Having the opportunity to feed of other like-minded individuals has opened my eyes to the type of organization I may want to work for, the type of work I want to do, and where I may want to live.

I am proud to say that working at the Osborn Neighborhood Alliance has had a positive influence on my transition into the workforce. Prior to the start of the program, I was torn between working for a non-profit/ for profit organization. Wrapping up the final week of the program, I have made the executive decision that I do not need to choose between the two. After to speaking to the ONA staff, who also served as my mentors this summer, they made it clear to me that I can admire the atmosphere that both of them provide. They stressed the fact that as long as I figure out my mission, and what I enjoy doing everyday, choosing between the two is not important.

I could not have asked for a better summer. Thank you Detroit!
