An experience that stood out to me, not having occurred at my placement, was when I witnessed a bike get stolen right in front of University Towers. I just so happened to be up and awake really late one night, and as I went to close my window, I seen two suspicious looking guys walk up to the bike rack downstairs and steal an unchained bike. That was crazy to me because after having spent about 6 weeks in Midtown, I thought this place was virtually crime free. I did my civic duty by calling the cops, and the perpetrators were apprehended almost immediately. Those dummies made the mistake of standing on the corner, just a block down, instead of making a smart get away. I felt proud to be the one who prevented some poor soul from waking up in the morning to a stolen bike. Hopefully that was a rare case of theft in this area, though, and not something that still happens as much as it did 5 years ago.
