Overall, I’ve learned a great deal from the DCBRP events/group meetings. The content of the meetings were valuable and eye opening but the most important thing that stood out to me was the effort to emerge ourselves in the culture of Detroit. We didn’t just go downtown and explore the community of Midtown that we’re in but we went to neighborhoods that are being affected by the current issues of Detroit. We went to non profits and got a better understanding of the work that they do and why it’s so important. We received a tour of Detroit from a Black history perspective, which is rare and priceless. I appreciated the effort that Jenna made, and continues to make, to ensure that us as participants receive a holistic experience from DCBRP.
