So, I have now spent two weeks in the city of Detroit and I habe to say one thing that I truly enjoy is the people. On Friday, my job took us on an open house where we were able to talk to some small business owners including Ms. Eda who owns the commons, a cafe and laundry mat in the city. Her and her partners have made the cafe a community space for the Mack Ave. neighborhood and build their neoghborhood up from this.
I work for Food Lab, a nonprofit that worls with small food businesses in the area to promot healthy and sustainable food businesses in areas with little access to these businesses. For my project, we will be tracing open and opening businesses in Detroit to see where and what quality these businesses are.
