6/27/19 Week 3 – Detroit Community-Engaged Research Program

6/27/19 Week 3

Picture: Me and the Heidelberg Project

One thing I have observed in Detroit is that the community is underserved by early care educators. Turn over of educators is very high because they aren’t being valued by the education system. They are payed like 8 dollars on average. That’s less than I am being payed to be an intern. It does not make a lot of sense since children are the future and the present. What happens to children in their early development impacts every part of their health later in life. My organization has shown me what the city and people of Detroit are doing to remedy this. I can observe in my organization that people really do deeply care about the cause.
