7/3/2019 Week 5

Quicken Loans has a huge presence in Detroit. Some see them as a savior in the changes being made to Detroit. I have heard a lot about the harm they are doing as well. My co-worker left Quicken Loans because of what she believed were unethical practices. She told me about how they burdened people after natural disasters instead of giving them breaks. She warned me that Quicken Loans seems shiny and nice on the outside, but that she could not morally continue to work there. That is not even considering Quicken Loans’ influence on Detroit. Dan Gilbert is not an elected official and his actions do not reflect those of the people. However, he has more power over Detroit than any elected official, I would argue. That’s just frightening. I hope Detroit is in good hands because Detroiters do not really have a choice.

It is really scary to see how people with money can buy influence in a city. Especially with it being so obvious in this case
