Kindness Goes a Long Way – Detroit Community-Engaged Research Program

Kindness Goes a Long Way

I’ve had a great time in DCERP so far both in and outside of my site placements. It’s hard to believe that our time together is almost over! There have been a number of great experiences at my site placements and at the weekly DCERP meetings, so it is kind of difficult to narrow it down to just one thing. However, I think the thing that stuck out the most to me would have to be the support from other DCERP students. I have noticed that there is never a lack of support for other students in virtually every aspect, whether it be a small accomplishment or a larger one. This is also the case for when guest speakers take time out of their busy schedules to speak with us.

Just to name one specific example, I remember when Ysabel was studying for her MCAT and the amount of support and good luck wishes she received was very heartwarming to witness, and I imagine even more heartwarming to receive! In addition to this support, there is no shortage of advice or assistance when one of us may be struggling with something, and I find solace in knowing that if I may ever be having an issue, I can turn to my DCERP peers for help. I think this kindness and support from peers is very helpful in furthering the welcoming environment that we all love being a part of!

  1. Hi Torisa!

I agree completely! This group is full of kind, generous, and otherwise amazing people who always show so much support for each other. Coming into the program, I was curious how our little community would work especially with the online aspect, but the sheer compassion of this group cleared away any worries that I may have had. I feel lucky to have been a part of this community.
