Every summer I tend to get into sustainability. Although, this summer it feels like I never fell into that mindset of trying to be environmentally conscious. Therefore, I am glad the environmental justice group had us take the carbon footprint quiz. It is upsetting that just by myself and my daily habits would need 3.6 Earths. That is 2.6 more than what I have got. Even being vegetarian and not driving far weekly, I still produce a significant amount of waste and emissions. It makes me wonder what the total amount of Earths it would be for all the people who may not care about the environment.
After that quiz, I honestly felt a bit of disappointment in myself for not taking time this summer to be environmentally friendly. But now, I am more motivated to be more aware of my purchases and things in my daily life that might have some negative impact on the environment.
I was told that I would need 3 earths aswell. Hearing this made me think of ways to be better environmentally speaking. It is so interesting how you really don’t know your everyday affect when you are in the motion of things. This is why it’s so important to be intentional about the choices we make everyday. Great post!
Hi Gabi! We’re glad you liked the presentation. Sorry you’re feeling a bit disappointed. We wanted to emphasize that the steps you’ve taken and plan to take are amazing for the environment; however, there’s only so much we can do at an individual level! I’m also considering being vegetarian, how do you like it?
I also felt the same way after taking the quiz and listening to the presentation. It definitely made me more motivated to make more changes in my daily life to reduce my carbon footprint.
I had similar thoughts after the presentation about how I could reduce my own carbon footprint. I had a similar score to yours and it made me consider how I could try to significantly reduce my carbon footprint. I’m glad you’ve decided to think more about how environmentally friendly you could be.
