Week Nine – Detroit Community-Engaged Research Program

Week Nine

Hey Everyone,

I’m really sad that this experience is coming to an end, but I can’t wait until we’re on campus and I get to see everyone in person. At least for a short time.

I reread my first post and I gotta say something was wrong with her. I think a community is not just people living life together, but it’s people experiencing things and working together to survive the bad stuff. Reflecting on this experience I learned that you can do a lot of work for people in a community and still not be apart of it. I feel like I supported an organization, not a community. Of course, the FCRB will help a lot of people in the community, but next time I want to be more involved and actionable. That’s not to say I didn’t enjoy my time with ProsperUS, but I wish I could have done more. I’ve joined meetings with people that left the community even though their business is still there.

Also, Good news! I didn’t break my promise to never doing math again. However, I now know that I will have to in the future for my financial wellbeing. Also, Crystal is still LEGENDARY. That’s it. I will see you all tonight 🙂

I love how you are passionate about getting out to work towards change on the ground level amongst the people in a community. You are going to go on to do AMAZING things to help those around you Ataia!
