Farewell Michigan Suburbs Alliance (kind of) – Detroit Community-Engaged Research Program

Farewell Michigan Suburbs Alliance (kind of)

Today was my last day. And it honestly felt like the longest and shortest summer of my life, at the same time.

What a journey – I’ve gained so many new insights and skills. And I’ve come to truly appreciate Michigan, Detroit, and non-profits.

I presented today to my entire staff (which was so nerve-wrecking!) and I got some really great feedback! At first, I thought everyone would tear everything I wrote and researched apart. But, they appreciated my attention to detail and my ability to attach each detail to a larger picture and meaning. We had some amazing conversations this afternoon that I would so like to have more of (which I may get the chance to do!). I became quite attached to the topics I did this summer and I loved being around people who shared these interests and geek-ed out about community planning.

I got a box of donuts for the office and a card as well as a personal gift for my supervisor. And they got me a gift too! It was all Michigan pride stuff (a coffee cup, magnets, and a pencil!). I loved it. It was a really nice day and it was sad to say goodbye. But, it may not be goodbye forever. Conan, our director, invited me to a conference in October in Ann Arbor. And I’m for sure going to come back to present my findings to MMC’s exec committee and maybe stay for more conversations on next year’s topics. I already told Emily, if she ever needs me to do something – I’m more than happy to do it on voluntary basis (without it being an official internship).

I really loved my summer working at MSA and am so glad and relieved that my co-workers liked and appreciated my work. I had a great time with all the CBRP people and I will miss you all very much. Thanks Jenna for putting together such an amazing program and I wish you all the best of luck at the symposium!
