An experience that stood out to me that did not occur at my placement was during last week’s seminar when we watched the documentary We Are Not Ghosts. Usually it is hard for me to be excited during seminar simply because of how early it is. I was preparing myself to do an activity but I was pleasantly surprised when I found out that we were going to watch a documentary. The documentary opened my eyes to so many things that are currently going on in Detroit. I learned about how Detroiters are helping themselves and others in a number of ways, including teaching, gardening, and music. It was really inspiring to see people (especially young people) taking initiative to support the city. We Are Not Ghosts has made me want to look more closely into all the good things people in the city are doing.
