Observing Detroit From Youth to Mentor

Youth engaging in team work

As you know I work for Detroit Food Academy, a youth driven organization that promotes food advocacy and leadership. Over the past few weeks I have been able to learn more about the city than I have ever knew before. There are many education leaders, youth and companies fighting for the survival of Detroit. While educators and youth understand the amazing opportunities in the city, the company allow a lot of networking for partnerships, amazing products, and even places where citizens can express themselves. Detroit is more than I have ever thought of because Detroiters fight and strive for their city.

We completed a scavenger hunt of the UM building area which was extremely fun. We learned about new places in the area like hospitals. churches, and cool stores while also learning about the other students experience in Detroit. Man, this is really going great and I am so excited to learn more about the city, the DCRP community, and the youth.

  1. I’m glad you enjoyed the scavenger hunt and got to find some new little gems around the city! That’s definitely what we were going for, haha.

Detroit Food Academy sounds like a really wonderful placement. It’s so important to engage young people in a way that gets them excited about positive change, and it sounds like you guys do a really great job of that!

  2. I also find it very enriching that you can learn so much more about a city when your environment changes. I hope you continue to enjoy it all and work hard for your nonprofit because I am sure they greatly appreciate it.
