Week Seven – Detroit Community-Engaged Research Program

Week Seven

FullSizeRender-2As much as I love to socialize during the school year I do like to take time for myself and just observe the world around me. Practicing self awareness and understand is something I take very seriously when I am not enrolled in classes. Things and life in general get very fast paced while classes are in session and I take the summer months to rediscover myself and learn about things I didn’t have time for before.

One day I was driving back from having my passport photos taken and saw games happening on basketball courts down by Campus Martius. I knew I had to take time to watch. I have always valued the camaraderie in a sport like basketball. Basketball has been my favorite sport since the very beginning and small pickup games have a tendency to take on a life of their own. Each is different depending on the people that are playing because it is a sport where communication is key, contrary to a sport like golf. I thoroughly enjoyed watching the game but then I take time after to walk around the city a bit.

Since then I have been downtown numerous times and each time I go for a walk    I take a different route than before. They are all very different and offer so much visual stimulation. I see so many beautiful places, art pieces, and people. Experiencing a city on foot offers a different kind of treasure than in a car.

Then taking this time of discovery to share with loved ones is my true joy. Being able to meet my brother after work and walk around to just enjoy the city is a very fulfilling experience for the both of us.IMG_4792    IMG_4799-1
