As much as I love to socialize during the school year I do like to take time for myself and just observe the world around me. Practicing self awareness and understand is something I take very seriously when I am not enrolled in classes. Things and life in general get very fast paced while classes are in session and I take the summer months to rediscover myself and learn about things I didn’t have time for before.
One day I was driving back from having my passport photos taken and saw games happening on basketball courts down by Campus Martius. I knew I had to take time to watch. I have always valued the camaraderie in a sport like basketball. Basketball has been my favorite sport since the very beginning and small pickup games have a tendency to take on a life of their own. Each is different depending on the people that are playing because it is a sport where communication is key, contrary to a sport like golf. I thoroughly enjoyed watching the game but then I take time after to walk around the city a bit.
Since then I have been downtown numerous times and each time I go for a walk I take a different route than before. They are all very different and offer so much visual stimulation. I see so many beautiful places, art pieces, and people. Experiencing a city on foot offers a different kind of treasure than in a car.
