My first two weeks have already come to a close and I’m really enjoying myself. I work at Friends of Parkside which is an organization that works tirelessly to provide services for residents of the Parkside Villages housing neighborhood as well as for other residents on the east side of Detroit. I’m working almost exclusively on the Parkside Academic Sports Teams (PAST) project. This project is meant to provide youth in the area the opportunity to participate in sports and other activities as well as learn valuable life skills. These last couple days have been much better in that I have more to do around the office and I’ve gotten the opportunity to work in the community more often.
Detroit just keeps getting cooler and cooler. I’m glad that I’ve gotten the chance to explore so much and can’t wait to keep exploring more. I also need to go to Hamtramck more often. I love getting the chance to talk to people in Arabic and they sell a lot of the same food that they do in Egypt which makes me happy. I also love the looks on people’s faces when I start speaking in Arabic and the people don’t expect me to talk like that.
Also, I’m getting way better at super smash bros thanks to playing with Brett like all the time and I can’t wait to get back and embarrass all my friends in a2.
If you’re ever looking for company when you’re going to Hamtramck definitely let me know it would super fun to go with a group.
