So far my experience with Voices for Earth Justice has been absolutely incredible. We completed our first project this week which was a rain garden at D-Town. It was amazing getting to witness the full transformation of the empty lot into a beautiful native plant garden that will benefit the bees and butterflies of the area. This week has mostly been consumed by the project there and preparing for a volunteer day that we had this past Wednesday. I learned a lot during that time as Naim and Patty talked about the struggle that the neighborhood as been through in Detroit and specific stories from the residents themselves. It really put my work into perspective.

I also had the opportunity to meet with people from the neighborhood and start getting an idea of who would be interested in weekly lunches. I met with one lady named Hope who talked about how she would come with her granddaughter on Fridays to volunteer and come to lunches, so that was quite encouraging. With how well this past week and a half has gone I am incredibly excited to see how these next few weeks will go as well and how the group will continue to bond.
