Week 2 – Detroit Community-Engaged Research Program

Week 2

Week #2 and it already feels like I’ve been here for a month. I’m getting into the swing of things with my very adult schedule. Work at Friends of Parkside is a bit of a roller coaster between feeling like I have nothing to do and having a million things to do at once. I feel like I’m falling into the daily routine pretty well. Friends of Parkside focuses on helping the Parkside community in every way possible from giving away free food to hosting sport teams for the kids. I’m the inbetween intern so I do everything. I help out Candice with planning the Health Fair as well as helping Moustafa with the sports team program. On my own, I’m working on a new grant to get a bike rack put in outside the facility as well as starting up a sports equipment lending library. I’m always tired after work with the long days so I haven’t been exploring as much as I would like but this weekend should be full of adventures with all of the activities happening downtown.
