Week 2: EcoWorks – Detroit Community-Engaged Research Program

Week 2: EcoWorks

After having a week under my belt, I can say with confidence is that I am really looking forward to this summer. The first being that I’ve had a great time so far exploring and going places with the group. It seems like we always get into something fun when we go out, and I appreciate coming up with cool things to do.

The next thing being my placement for this summer. I’m super stoked to be at EcoWorks and excited to see the finished product at the end of the summer. Ecoworks’ mission is to bridge the gap between community development and sustainability. They are services from home energy audits to workshops on saving money on your energy bill.

This summer I will be working for Green Consulting, specifically; which is broken up into project sectors: Eco-D and Michigan Energy Efficiency For All (MEEFA). MEEFA is what I am working on and it is a country-wide network that promotes energy efficiency programs in affordable multi-family housing. My task this summer is to create a digital map of the properties and develop a database that allows policymakers to find where these low energy efficient housing buildings are located. I am very happy to know that the work I am doing will help others. I am really looking forward to comes of these very important project.

  1. Sydney, this sounds like such an awesome project and placement! You are totally right that the work you’re doing is important. The results of your work are going to assist policymakers in seeing the benefits of energy efficiency, and help them to create policy that promotes sustainability and collective well-being for communities in the future!
