DCBRP Week 4 Micah Griggs – Detroit Community-Engaged Research Program

DCBRP Week 4 Micah Griggs

I’ve been reflecting a lot on culture lately. Not just in the workplace but in the neighborhoods that I am working in. I work for EcoWorks which is located on Michigan Avenue in Southwest Detroit. There’s a different demographic makeup in that area–mostly Latinos (Mexican descent). Even the houses are designed differently and the artistic display of tall metal gates lines the sidewalks of each house. There’s a reason for that. That reason is culture. In the workplace, there is a diverse group of people which really contributes to the culture of the organization. EcoWorks employees are understanding, open, and considerate and it helps that social justice and community is at the forefront of their work.

  1. Hi Micah,
I appreciate the lens you use to explore this new community. You seem open and intrigued by this new culture that you have recently encountered. I hope you have a great time at work and continue to your cultural education.

Hi Micah, its nice to work in a community that is considerate and understanding. My community is different culture wise from yours, but they are very considerate and understanding as well. I also have been reflecting on cultures in the neighborhoods aside from the work place which is different as well. Keep reflecting on culture and keep up the good work!
