At this point in the Detroit Community Based Research Program, I feel settled in! I feel more at home than ever this week. I have a routine established and I am loving my time here at this program. This program has given me a glimpse of what life will be after college. Each day I wake up, eat breakfast (depending on the amount of time I have), pack my lunch and go to work. After work if we don’t have group activities I change into comfortable clothes, cook, and enjoy the company of my fellow program members.
At work I have gotten completely use to the culture and how my boss and fellow colleagues work. I can pretty much guess what time everyone will come in to work and what there greetings will be. I no longer have new intern jitters; I am comfortable and very happy with my position. Though I am comfortable every day at work is still filled with surprises. My boss is very spontaneous so though one thing might be planned, we may do something completely different. These spontaneous acts keeps me on my toes.
On the weekend is when I truly get a chance to explore Detroit more, whether it is with family or friends. Just this weekend my mom, aunt, and I went to some of the new places downtown and we had an amazing time. It was such a beautiful day and everyone looked so happy and cheery. When we went to Campus Martius beach area I truly felt like I was on vacation at a resort with a bar by the sand. The park was so crowded and the people were so friendly. Times like this allow me to enjoy and to feel proud of my city!
