I feel like this prompt is supposed to lead us to discuss some incredible revelation that we had one day about Detroit and living here and things like that but I haven’t really had one of those yet. The experiences that I’ve had so far that really stand out to me are the fun ones that I have with my friends as Lindsay and I check things off of our list. I know that is somewhat of a naïve thing to say but it’s true. Most of the largely eye-opening experiences happen at work for me while I interact with the students. Other than that, I feel like I am not experiencing too much which is a sad thing to say but the it’s the truth. We’ve had experiences like the day we ate at American Coney, the night that we ate tons of cookies after Lindsay made at least 200, or the day we went to that free concert at Campus Martius. Those are experiences that I love and are incredible memories but at times I feel like I should be doing more exploring outside of the Midtown/Downtown area and we are planning to but there’s only so much we can do in 3 weeks.

I feel you on this, most of my profound experiences have come at work or work-related events, but I don’t think that’s necessarily a bad thing. It’s good that we are just enjoying our time here and doing things we want to do, part of the point of this program is to enjoy Detroit. I think it’s just important to keep our eyes open for instances of the issues we learn about.
