A Tour of Detroit: Week 8 – Detroit Community-Engaged Research Program

A Tour of Detroit: Week 8

I really enjoyed the tour of Detroit we went on with Mr. Jordan. I learned so much about Detroit that I did not know. I was shocked that all of this history was in Downtown Detroit and I did not know nothing about it. I wish that Detroit Public Schools can implement the Detroit-rich history into the curriculum when they talk about America’s history. I also felt kind of awkward that I was touring Detroit and I lived here my whole life. However, through all of the awkwardness I had fun! I would definitely recommend this tour to all of my Detroit natives and foreigners. Mr. Jordan did an excellent job with the tour and you could really tell that he knew what he was talking about. I enjoyed learning about how the Detroit police department came to be, the stories he told of slaves trying to become free, and the history of the Detroit Free Press. I am glad we had the tour in the beginning of the program because it was a great welcoming event to Detroit. I can confi0dently say this was my favorite Tuesday event.
