It’s hard to believe we’re already two-thirds of the way done with our internships! In the past six weeks, I have learned so much about what it takes to work at a non-profit, to live in Detroit, and to plan a health fair. At the beginning of June, I was beyond overwhelmed thinking about all that had to be done in order to successfully plan a whole health fair, from ordering t-shirts to securing sponsorships to making sure enough organizations would be willing to participate. Now that the health fair is a week from today, Destini and I have completed a majority of what needs to be done. I am definitely beyond excited for the day of the health fair to get here so we can see firsthand all that we have planned and accomplished.
It has been such an amazing opportunity learning how to interact and network with other community organizations. I’m really grateful that I am learning how to plan an event as huge as this, as I think it’s taught me a lot about budgeting, time management, and working with other people. After the health fair is over next week, I hope I can continue to play an important role at Friends of Parkside and make a positive difference for the residents here.

I’ve heard a lot about what you’ve been planning from Destini. Rai and I will be at the Health fair so I’m excited to see what you’ve put together.
Wow, it sounds like you’ve had a full plate and it must be nice to relax a bit towards the end. I hope that the health fair is fantastic and super effective. I’ve also learned how to network with other community organizations by working on the Dream Cafe project with my non-profit. It’s awesome that you feel like you’ve made a positive impact on the community, this program is structured so well for that!
