As I close out week six I want to set some goals for these next three weeks. Yesterday I was talking to a friend about something I was frustrated with and I said “there’s only three weeks left so what can I really do about it now”. That’s so silly. Three weeks is so much time and I don’t want to leave this experience feeling like I left something behind! So I’m making a challenge to myself (and to you if you’re reading this and feel the same way) to make the most of these last three weeks and if there’s something about your work or your experience you’re not thrilled about, try and make a plan to change that! I find it’s so much easier to write down what you want to change cause then you have somewhere to start.
One thing I personally am frustrated (with myself) about is that I’m not spending enough time in Detroit. I’m very focused on my studying and on the weekends I have rarely been around. But there’s no reason for me to be holed up studying in my apartment, I can study anywhere if I have some headphones and wifi! So I challenge myself to find a new spot to study every Monday and Wednesday (that’s specific and do-able enough, yes?). If you’re reading this, I invite you to join me next Monday when I head down to Campus Martius to do my studying there (they have free wifi woohoo!) (I’ll send it in the groupme on Monday too). I also commit to spending the next two weekends in Detroit and I’m excited by the idea of finding some new places and activities I haven’t before. I’m sure just by virtue of looking around for cool places to study and different things to do on the weekend that even if I can’t hit everything, at least I’ll be learning even more about different areas of Detroit.
So, my goals:
1. To see more of Detroit
2. To learn more about the projects other people are working on and events of theirs I could attend
3. To hear the stories of my coworkers (more than where they’re from) (why they like working here, what led them here, why are they passionate about the work they do)

Hey,
Thanks for the encouraging reminder that three is still enough time to get stuff done. I was feeling that same way, and you’ve helped me realized that I need to take a step back and just map it out. Also, there is a spoken word showcase by the youth this Sunday at the MOCA if you’re interested? Well, I wish you luck in your goals, and I have faith that you can not only achieve them but have room for more. Sending good vibes:)
Hi Kayla,
Thank you for your post and message!
I’ve been stressing about not having much time left for my project and dreading this program ending. Your post helped me take a step back and think about how 3 weeks isn’t a short amount of time. I might be working from home on Monday so maybe we could work together in Campus Martius. I’d also be open to trying to find new things to do on the weekends, maybe we could get a group together to go see something. I was thinking it would be cool to check out the Belle Isle Aquarium at some point.
Anyway, I wish you the best with your project and these last few weeks!
Best,
Kyle
