This week has been seemingly chill and the weather has been brightening up. I have been enjoying our community activities at Boll YMCA,, and am looking forward to doing some more in the coming weeks! We haven’t moved our survey as quickly as we expected, but I have been trying to dabble in a little different tasks within the company. This Thursday evening, we had the pleasure of going to the 26th annual Creatives of Color event! I’ve never heard of it before, but love the idea of combining artistic things and social justice to make an impact, something I try to do in some of my campus involvements. This year the event was at the Arab American museum, which I didn’t even know about, but am looking forward to stopping by in the future and looking around! I really appreciated hearing the keynote speaker Dr. Hanna-Attish because she is very much passionate about the social determinants that can hinder the chances of many Flint children living healthy lives. I also appreciated the panel because they all represented different backgrounds and demonstrated how we must collaborate and discuss/share with one another in order to move forward. I am really glad that we had the opportunity to go this year and I will be looking out for their event next year! 🙂

I really loved listening to Dr. Hanna-Attish, too! She spoke so eloquently. I didn’t know a ton about the Flint water crisis, so I learned a lot from her talk. I also liked how she talked about finding a role in social justice through her work as a pediatrician. Really inspirational. Yeah, I’d like to visit that museum again sometime, too.
