The Juneteenth even is an experience that has left a lasting impression on me. Going into it, I didn’t really know what to expect. I was aware of what Juneteenth was, but was unsure of how a program surrounding it would “look”, especially considering the size of the building we were in. When I first sat down, I was expecting it to be more of a lecture or performance heavy event with no audience interaction. I was pleasantly surprised with how engaged everyone was because of the need for participation. Additionally, I really enjoyed how connections to what is happening today were made.
