Week 4 – Detroit Community-Engaged Research Program

Week 4

Brilliant Detroit’s family culture is recognized in their flat organizational mentality as well as their drive towards Asset-Based Community Development in general. Many parts of Brilliant’s organization interacts with each other in a way that recognizes people’s individual talents and interests before strict protocol or hierarchy. This means Brilliant’s staff looks for peoples strengths, personality, and work-styles to encourage a dynamic and flexible work culture. This past week, we were introduced to “Strengthfinders,” an aptitude test that breaks down personalities into 5 key strengths. The discussion and analyses that came from recognizing our strengths and learning how they interact with one another forced us to be more aware of one another mannerisms, peeves, and preferences. This really matches Brilliant’s ABCD initiative to seek out people’s talents and offer the tools to thrive.
