Week 9 – Detroit Community-Engaged Research Program

Week 9

I was speaking with my supervisor today about my first blog post and we talked about how on point I was about everything that actually took place at my placement. I have developed so many skills this summer. I learned about project management skills at Friends Of Parkside while planning and organizing the health fair. I learned about leadership skills while leading planning committee meetings and working with volunteers. I learned about mail merge while sending invitation letters to vendors. I have been introduced to organizations in my community that I did not know about while planning the health fair. I learned about issues that are important to residents. I am more comfortable talking on the phone and being social. My expectations did meet my reality. The health fair went well there were forty-one organizations/agencies that attended the health fair. I received a lot of good feedback from the community and vendors. I hope that I am able to volunteer at next year’s health fair.
