Week 7: Cohort Community – Detroit Community-Engaged Research Program

Week 7: Cohort Community

The overall experience of our DCERP cohort meetings has stood out to me. I honestly didn’t know what to expect coming into this program, and the fact that it had to completely modify the format and go online only made the experience more mysterious from the outset. I’m grateful that we decided to stick it out and go virtual, because I’ve had some great experiences in this program, particularly in the cohort meetings. I’ve learned a lot from our guest speakers including DeAndre Calvert, LaNeice Jones, the panel of site supervisors, etc. But the thing that stands out the most about cohort meetings is the interactions that I’ve had with other fellows. My learning group, which is focused on Detroit’s Art & Cultural heritage, has been a lot of fun. I enjoy the opportunities to sort of talk and decompress after a long day or a long week. The community that we’ve built within our small groups and within our cohort is outstanding and surprising given the circumstances.

  1. Hey Sean!

Thanks for sharing, I completely agree with everything you have to say! I’m glad that we all decide to continue virtually, I believe we had a way of connecting that we wouldn’t have experienced if we had waited until next year to continue our placements.
I hope we can continue strengthening our community in the future! 🙂
