Mucho Information y Translations DHDC-W3

After a lot of reading I was left with A LOT of information about smoking tobacco. My next task Imagewas to compile a powerpoint presentation that summed up what I learned. A few interesting facts I learned are:

  • “There are approximately 600 ingredients in cigarettes. When burned, they create more than 4,000 chemicals. At least 50 of these chemicals are known to cause cancer, and many are poisonous. ”

  • Tobacco use causes more than 440,000 deaths each year in the US.
  • “Approximately 60% of people in the United States have biological evidence of secondhand smoke exposure.”

And the above are just a FEW of the many facts associated with tobacco use. It’s amazing to me that there are so many health risks that can come from what others see as just moments of pleasure.

After finishing my powerpoint it was time to translate it -_-. Yes, I have been excited to use more Spanish but this task was not easy because I am not fluent yet. My supervisor is now in the process of looking over my translation and I am learning more about some of the mistakes I made and also some of the differences between the Spanish I have learned and the specific language that Mexicans use. Some people assume that Spanish is just Spanish but trust me that is not the case. It varies everywhere you go.

  1. Wow, I’m very impressed that you’re able to do this task and glad your supervisor is there for support! This project sounds very interesting/impact-ful however the biggest challenge/scariest thing (for me) would definitely be the language nuances that would come up. Hope it goes/went well for you though!
