Week 9 – Detroit Community-Engaged Research Program

Week 9

The Green Garage atmosphere has been getting really emotional as the summer comes to an end. All the interns that bring joy and energy into the Green Garage are leaving and that will leave the office space half empty. They plan on framing and hanging a picture of all of the interns near the entrance of the office. I am truly going to miss the Green Garage and my organization, Detroit Food Academy. I hope our paths will cross again in the near future.

My work is coming along just fine these last couple of weeks. I caught up on my newly acquired record-keeping duties which was a complete surprise to both of my supervisors. Monday evening I attended a meeting with several teachers that are interested in possibly adopting or teaching our project-based learning curriculum into their schools. I was very excited because it allows our hard efforts finally being put to use. Our goal is to expand into 8 high schools during the 2013-2014 school year, and we are on the right track.

We had a very successful summer at our markets and our customers really enjoy our products. UROP’s very own, Niki, can vouch because she purchased a few of our products at our Northwest Market. The students are really enjoying themselves and learning firsthand business skills which is our primary goal. My summer project has indeed been a success despite not being able to immediately measure its impact.
