Final presentation, finally – Detroit Community-Engaged Research Program

Final presentation, finally

The past few weeks have definitely been the most chaotic. I finished my report a bit early, and the past three Wednesdays, the day when we normally have staff meetings, I’d been expecting to present my findings to the GHOPE staff. Unfortunately, things didn’t work out that way. Two weeks ago, the director had jury duty and I didn’t catch word that the meeting was cancelled until thirty minutes before. Last week, it just didn’t happen. Last Thursday, I was expected to present my findings at a community meeting, but I seemed to have slipped off the agenda when a rainstorm delayed the outdoor get-together. So this week was the last chance for me to actually discuss what I’ve found out about the community over the past nine weeks, and I must say, I was pretty anxious about getting it right.

The bad and the good of my final presentation: I was too excited to sleep the night before. It sounds silly, and it is, but that’s the truth. Fortunately, my excitement overcame my tiredness yesterday. I got to the meeting, aaaaaaand….. the director was the only staff  to show up. Even though I didn’t get to tell the others about my findings, my meeting with the director could not have gone better. She was very impressed by my findings, and it seemed she learned a lot of useful things from it. Not only that, but she said she was very happy with the work I had done over the summer, which was great to hear!
