Week 10 @ Detroit 300 – Detroit Community-Engaged Research Program

Week 10 @ Detroit 300

Can’t believe it’s over!! This week consisted of finalizing the powerpoint version of my report (although there’s still some survey information other interns took that I need to add — which is good because next week I’ll be starting a new *bonus* project that’ll leave me with a lot of extra time on my hands!)

So looking back — (another list!) The top 3 things about working at Detroit 300 this summer:

  1. Being so involved in the organization! Detroit 300 is a very small organization that puts on pretty large events and it was very cool to casually be a part of putting events together. I loved being able to go outside in my free time and help put up the signs announcing the day’s events a couple hours beforehand!
  2. The People! Detroit 300 has some amazing people (you may have seen an article about one of them in the Detroit Free Press! http://www.freep.com/article/20130804/FEATURES01/308040009/Arts-Njia-Kai-African-Festival) It’s been so much fun working alongside these people who are all humorous and energized and can stay calm/not get too crazy even when things get very stressful (e.g. when a performer cancels last minute or a delivery that should have come weeks ago still hasn’t arrived for the event it’s needed for).
  3. Of course, the amazing events/location! It’s so great to see so many people downtown and to be in the middle of the action. Many of the events produced by Detroit 300 that I attended for my report pretty much make up the highlights of my summer. The Parks are beautiful and it’s so handy to be able to go to a variety of delicious food booths right outside our building in Cadillac Square (http://www.freep.com/article/20130618/FEATURES02/306180100/restaurants%20detroit%20campus%20martius%20cadillac) And I couldn’t forget how beautiful the Compuware Building is (google image search Compuware Detroit)!

All in all it’s been a great summer! Though it involved a lot of odd hours (and it had it’s stress-filled moments) it was definitely worth it to be able to have this amazing experience this summer!
