Entry #9: Seminar Reflection

I’d have to say the most helpful seminar was a few weeks ago when Lorelle returned and we started brainstorming in our groups for our symposium posters. I found the storytelling to be far more useful that I thought it would be, and as a group we were able to bounce our ideas off of each other. I think I really found this seminar so helpful because I wasn’t really expecting it to be. It was a good first step on what we might put on our poster and really gave us enough direction in the future to make our poster. My favorite seminar was probably the one where my supervisor, Emile, came to visit. I thought it was so great how he just decided to sit us all in a circle and have a discussion about life with us. He’s given me plenty to think about in regards to my professional future. It’s amazing to hear about Emile’s 18 different jobs and how he ended up in DPS. I think he’s taught me not to expect that you can get to a certain job by following a laid-out path, you have to have the courage to jump around to a few different jobs, while picking up plenty of new skills and experiences along the way, to have the best shot at making it to that dream job.

  1. Chelsey, I really enjoyed when Emile came in too! That seminar was very relaxed and personal. I enjoyed talking about our future plans and hearing about his unpredictable pathway to his current career.
