Lately, I have been working in different buildings of Focus: HOPE and gotten more opportunities to walk in the community. I have been assigned to sit at a different office for three days of this week. As I am sitting in that office, I came to the realization that I have continually underestimated the size of Focus HOPE. Each day, I learn of another program that it operates.
On my right in the office, there are start ups who have rented out office space at low rates, which helps them substantially in growing. On my left, there is a window that overlooks a large area of manufacturing space buzzing with workers. These spaces have a ripple effect on the community that is hard to measure.
I have also become more aware of other nonprofits in the neighborhood. The Wellspring Lutheran Services and the Neighborhood Service Organization (NSO) operate affordable housing facilities for disadvantaged groups down the street. I visited them and was impressed by the condition of the facilities. I had the expectation that social housing would be badly neglected and underfunded, but it was completely the opposite. They can be easily mistaken for a well-off hotel. 
This picture is of the manufacturing space that I see from my office, it can serve as a snapshot of some of the great work that Focus: HOPE does.
