In the beginning, I found the seminars to be quite boring. They were too long and about topics I wasn’t interested in. As the program has gone on, a few interesting ones have been thrown into the mix. These involved debating and politics, and I came out of them inspired and driven. Otherwise, there wasn’t much of interest. However, I was SUPER grateful to get out of work early at least one day a week.
It would have been nice to have some say in who presented.
Seminars for me have been very informative, but, admittedly, also boring. Some of the most advantageous seminars for us have also been the boring (see: library seminar). One seminar vocally criticized my placement. But that also allowed me to consider my work more carefully and ensure that I keep the people of Detroit in mind at all times. After all, we are here for them. Granted, that can be hard sometimes, but I think the Tuesday seminars really help us to evaluate our work so that we remember to serve Detroiters first.
