Detroit State of Mind (Letter to myself)

Dear Jasmine,

It feels great to have finally moved into the apartments, after a long couple of weeks out of the country. Finally being able to call Detroit home after living out of a suitcase for a while has been amazing. Now that I am all settled in, I am very excited to venture out, by exploring all what Detroit has to offer. However, moving in on Saturday afternoon did not leave much time to take on Detroit like I had originally planned. Although, I did not see as much of the city as I would have liked to, I did manage to make a grocery store run, with Tierra and Harrison. Even though, Meijer may not be considered the ideal hangout spot in the city, I still managed to steal a sneak peak of the city. Spending some quality time with Tierra and Harrison, made me even more excited for what we have planned in the future.

Since, I will be working with the Osborn Neighborhood Alliance (ONA) this summer, I am super excited as well as anxious to be treated as an actually employee. No longer being considered a student worker, I will not have the wiggle room, and a huge margin of error like I have previously had, which is both exciting and frightening at the same time. Volunteering as tribute, I accept the challenge, knowing that age does not determine success, but being tenacious and confident always manages to get the job done. Working with the ONA also has me super thrilled to be working with residents, where I will be helping them obtain the proper documents so that they are job ready. Furthermore, I hope the ONA helps me figure out what it is I want to do after my undergraduate career.

Love,

Jasmine

P.S. You have plenty of time to figure out your mission!
